Blast from the Past Social Media

As we all know, Social Media has become an ever growing platform for many different purposes. Whether you're letting people know that your company is launching a new initiative, adding a cool filter to that sandwich you had for lunch or even letting people know that some jerk stole your parking spot, social media and the many apps we use to stay connected are taking over.

Vine
If you haven't heard of Vine (maybe you've been living under a rock or something, I'm not one to judge,) it's a stop motion app that allows you to allot 6 seconds of footage however you would like. It's become so big that some of the more popular users such as Jessi Smiles, Curtis Lepore and Robby Ayala have been deemed "Vine Famous."

While Vine has been rolling out updates since its launch in January of this year, it's most notable updates have been the addition of the front facing camera and now the Session and Time Travel features. Until now, users would have to post material for vines in chronological order. This update now allows viners to edit, reorder and even save as a draft to come back to later so they can post other vines in the meantime. This is essentially allowing users to time travel with their posts. Quite a big deal, if ya ask me.

BBM
Channel your inner 2009 self and get ready to chit chat with friends using the medium you used back in the day. While iPhone and Android have trumped Blackberry in the past few years, many people are excited about the new version of their favorite instant messaging platform for their new phones. Although users have the ability to iMessage ,etc., there is something nostalgic about BBM that has users downloading like crazy. Within one day, the app became the number one messaging app in the world. According to BGR, it was downloaded over 5 million times within 8 hours of its availability. INSANE. Although I have yet to start using it, I do have it downloaded on my phone. All of my news feeds on social media are filled with people's  PINs and asking to be added. Although everyone has downloaded it, is anyone actually using it? I'm not sure, I just don't really see why it's necessary, but I still downloaded it and I guess that's the point.

I also read an interesting article that I found on TNooz (which I mentioned in my last post) about the next generation of travelers (people who will soon make their own travel arrangements rather than having an adult help out) using Facebook less and less and turning to Twitter and Instagram. While Facebook changed the social media game, users are not only decreasing how often they check the site, but many are even deactivating.

Personally,  I will probably never deactivate just because so many of my teenage years have been documented on there and while I've had many different phones, computers, cameras, etc, my Facebook still has it all. The chat feature is also a big thing for me. Call me crazy, but I'm still a fan.

Later, y'all!

Paige xx
